How we rank

What we look at

• Reputation. The overall review score and how many people gave it. A 4.8 from 900 reviews says more than a 5.0 from six.
• Consistency. Whether recent reviews tell the same story as older ones.
• Value. What you get for the price, compared with similar businesses nearby.
• Useful details. Clear hours, contact details and an honest description help a listing, because they help you decide.

How lists change

We review the lists regularly. A place can move up or down as new businesses open, standards shift or reviews change. Every list shows the businesses in its area or category; listings outside the Top 10 stay in the directory below it.

Paid placements

Businesses can pay to appear in the block marked Sponsored at the top of a page. That block is always labelled and always separate from the ranking. Paying never buys a position in a Top 10, and a sponsor that also earns a ranked place keeps that place on merit. Read about advertising.

Visitor reviews

Reviews written on Top 10 Bars are checked by our team before they appear. They are shown separately from the imported review score and do not decide the ranking on their own.
