Are you a wine lover? Then this blog post is for you. These are the types of Australian wines you must know as a wine lover.

Types of  Australian Wines:

1.Sparkling Wine.

Sparkling wines have had a rich history in Australia since the 1800s. In Australia, we can see different types of sparkling wine. The type of sparkling wine varies based on the variety of grape, sugar level, vintage or non-vintage.

Sparkling wines are made in cold climates using traditional methods. Normally, sparkling wines are stored in dark, dry & cool places. The temperature should not fluctuate. You can find sparkling wine in Australia with flavours like Apple, nuts, peach, citrus & more.

You can enjoy a glass of sparkling wine with sushi, fried chicken, oysters, cheese, or desserts.

Australian Sparkling wine styles:

Sparkling white wine

Australians use sparkling white wine on occasions like weddings & birthdays. And also it is a popular drink to have at friend & family gatherings. Sparkling white is made of grape varieties like pinot noir, chardonnay & pinot Meunier. Since it contains carbon dioxide, it has many bubbles.

Sparkling red:

Sparkling red wine is made of different grapes like pinot, cabernet, noir, merlot & shiraz. Even though sparkling red wine has a rich history in Australia, sparkling white is more popular.

Australians use sparkling red wine on festive occasions. And it is better to keep it in the refrigerator.

Sparkling Rosé

Sparkling Rosé is a popular wine style among Australians. Sparkling Rosé is made of grape varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier.

2.Fortified wines.

Australia is the birthplace of several fortified wines like Muscat & Tokay. As a result of their prominent quality & tastes, those wines are well-known in the country.

Rich and sweet Muscat is a wine with hints of tropical fruit, honey, and spices. The same grape used to make Muscat is used to make Tokay, which has a drier flavour profile with hints of apricot, peach, pear, caramel, and nuts. Both wines are frequently offered as a post-meal or dessert pairing.

These wines are ideal for celebrations with friends and family because of their high alcohol content. They are the perfect pick for any occasion thanks to their distinctive flavours and aromas.

Most popular types of wines in Australia:

Shiraz– Shiraz is one of the most popular types of Australian wines. Shiraz is grown in every wine region of Australia. Shiraz wine has a long history.

Pinot Noir- Pinot Noir is one of the favourite Australian wine types of restaurants, bars & pubs. People adore it for its vibrant red-fruit flavours, smooth texture, and ease of food pairing. One of the most challenging vines to grow is Pinot Noir because it is a delicate plant. It thrives in colder areas and established itself in Australian cool-climate areas like Tasmania.

Chardonnay- Chardonnay is the most planted white wine variety. Chardonnay is grown all over the country and is used to make many wine styles. You can find Chardonnay wines in flavours like nuts, peach & citrus.

Riesling- Australia is one of the best Riesling producers. Best wines from Riesling are coming from cold climate areas like Eden Valley & Tasmania.

Australian Riesling wines are usually softer than Chardonnay and are vibrant, new, and aromatic. Although it is typically a dry wine, there are also some off-dry and dessert wine varieties. While most wines are made to be consumed right away, some premium bottles from colder climates have the ability to age gracefully for several years. You can find flavours like apple, honey & citrus.

Semillon- This is one of the unique types of Australian wines. Semillon has the ability to age fine for years or decades. Semillon has a rich history in Australia, and now wine lovers are rediscovering it once more thanks to a new generation of enthusiastic winemakers. You can find flavours like honey, apple & citrus Semillon in Australia.
